WABA appoints legendary sports journalist to head Communication

The World Africa Boxing Association (WABA) has appointed veteran sports journalist John Nene as the new Communication and Public relations Director.

In the appointment letter dated Tuesday, 16, 2021, and signed by WABA Human Resource and Development Director Ireen Joseph magebo, WABA President and Chairperson Col. Onesmo Alfred McBride Ngowi said Mr. Nene will together with the Association formulate policies and strategies for public relations and communication.

This according to WABA President will be aiming at promoting and marketing the Association’s brand worldwide.

Nene, a celebrated and an accomplished Kenyan Multimedia broadcast Journalist is also a renowned author and an award-winning sports journalist.

Mr. Nene boasts vast experience in the sports world and he has worked for the print media.

Among the media establishments he worked for are the Weekly review/Nairobi times, Kenya Times and leading Kenya’s Newspaper Daily Nation.

Nene also worked for the Kenya Television Network (KTN) as the Chief Sports Reporter and anchor.

He has also worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) radio and online.

A Kenyans top boxing commentator with bilingual aspects Nene, a widely travelled journalist has covered major games among them Olympic Games thrice, World Athletics Championships four times, World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Africa Boxing Championships.

Boxing is his speciality having covered various tournaments extensively for over 30 years.

His new roles in WABA are effective immediately and will last for the next two years.
