Former Kilifi Deputy governor Kenneth Kamto was on Wednesday morning shot dead at his Nyali home in Mombasa.
Mombasa County commissioner Evans Achoki confirmed the incident adding the gunmen invaded his home around 4 am Wednesday morning killing the former Deputy governor.
His wife also sustained serious gunshot wounds and is receiving urgent medical attention at the Coast general hospital.
Police are yet to reveal the motive behind the killings.
According to Mombasa County police commandant Johnston Ipara, they have launched a manhunt against the gunmen.
Kilifi County governor Amason Jeffa Kingi led other political leaders in mourning Kamto.
Kingi termed the former Kilifi county Deputy governor as a selfless leader who dedicated his self to serving Kilifi residents.
On his part, MUHURI Rapid response Officer Francis Auma appealed for quick investigations to unearth the motive behind the killings.
He said that Mombasa was marred by insecurity incidences and locals were living in fear.
